Race Report: 2023 Race #2 // Port angeles

May 13th and 14th brought the NW Cup back to always sunny Port Angeles, WA and this weekend didn't disappoint with the weather. Mid 70s and sun all weekend was a drastic difference from the rain during round 1. With more than 500 riders again, great weather, great vibes, and the infamous Dry Hill there were smiles everywhere.

Team Points

After the second round of races for the 2023 NW Cup, the team points standings are starting to take shape. The fastest times and consistent performances from the Galbraith Gravity Racing team have put them in the lead with 367 total team points. Not far behind is the Sweet Lines team, with 359 total points.

Pretty Dry for Dry Hill

The Pros and Cat 1 got to run the new trail (Aces High-Middle White Knuckle-Boombox-Salalad-Talladega), but in the dry this time, bringing the fastest time on the trail close top breaking the 2min mark. Cat 2 got to race the always fast, flowy, and fun Waynes World, Short Shorts, Heckler's Row, with a detour to an older trail - Camptown, with a finish on Lower Pro. Cat 3 got to enjoy the new Mini-muffins-Double Bypass-Lower White Knuckle-Talledega.

World Cups around the corner

With the world cups coming just around the corner, some racers were out getting up to speed. With the likes of the Norco Factory team (Gracey Hemstreet, Mark Walla, Lucas Cruz), Finn Iles, Seth Sherlock, and Garbiel Neron (Canadian National Champion) there was a stacked field for the pros. Not to be out done, the amateur classes also came out in force with over 200 Cat 2 riders (51 Cat 2 15-16!!), and a deep cat 3 field all the way down to our boys 7 and under that had 8 riders.

MTB BMX Track Takeover

On Friday nights, the BMX track gets taken over by a frenzy of mountain bikers with their big and burly bikes. The atmosphere is electric as the riders race around the track with their bikes packing more suspension and bigger tires than their BMX counterparts. Cheering fans and the smell of freshly churned dirt add to the excitement of the racing. The track's intricate twists and turns demand a high level of skill from the riders, with narrow jumps and obstacles waiting at each turn. It's a pulsating and exhilarating way to spend a Friday night for both the riders and the spectators alike.
